This is a love letter to my favorite movie, structured as an argument for everything that makes it perfect. From script to screen, I handled every aspect of production: writing, shooting, editing, color grading, motion graphics, and sound design. The video explores the real NORAD incident that nearly triggered the movie's plot in 1979, the incredible set design of Crystal Palace, and details like David's Imsai 8080 computer.
Directing oneself is hard, so I enlisted two talented friends for the shoot - one to run the teleprompter, and another to direct - while I handled cameras and composition. The bigger challenge came during post-production when my new laptop kept shutting down mid-edit due to a hardware flaw. Unable to edit on battery power, my plan to edit during my morning commute was dead on arrival, so I pivoted to working in a Manhattan coffee shop between 7 and 8am each day before heading next door to the office - whatever it took to get this passion project finished.
